What Happened This Winter?
It seems like I just let the whole winter pass with no update on the blog. It was fun, heartbreaking, and overall very busy.
Before the kidding season started, we had a couple of losses. It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that Trick passed away in November and Oats passed away in January. Trick passed away from Listeria, which is an infectious disease that we are still learning about. It messes with their brain and there was almost no coming back from that. Oats got pregnancy toxemia which we are still learning about as well. This happens most commonly in animals that are pregnant with two or more babies because it has to do with an imbalance of nutrients. Oats was pregnant with triplet boys and we were not able to save them either. It was very tough to go through, but knowing how to avoid these now, it was a learning experience that we hope we never have to deal with again. They are both missed very much.
After these losses, we gained some new friends: Brother and Sister, Golden, Aster, and Ribbon.
Cardi had Brother and Sister on January 16th.
Minaj had Golden on January 17th.
Queen had Ribbon on January 21st.
Poppy had Aster on January 22nd.
I am so proud of all of these moms! They did not need any assistance with birthing and did amazing raising these beautiful babies! We were able to get all 5 of these babies new homes and they will all be shown by 4Hers at the end of the summer and we are so excited to see how they do this show season.
Starburst then had her babies on March 11th, Sage and Scooter.
She has so much milk that her babies stay with her and I milk her once a day and get plenty to make soaps and lotions! She has been doing so good with her babies and they are growing so fast. They are adorable and get sweeter and sweeter every day.
